They embody automotive history, design and passion – and have become an integral part of Switzerland’s roads. According to recent analyses by the online platform AutoScout24, interest in classic cars is on the rise.
For the past five years, classic cars have consistently accounted for around 1 per cent of all vehicle listings on AutoScout24 – making it a small but exclusive market. In 2025, the platform has recorded an average of around 6’200 listings per month, with the average price for a collector’s vehicle standing at CHF 56’239. Compared with the same period in 2023, this marks an increase of 5.1 per cent in listings and 0.45 per cent in prices. With an average of 769 listings per month in 2025, the canton of Zurich leads the pack when it comes to classic car supply, having seen growth of around 29.5 per cent over the past three years. It is followed by St. Gallen with 717 listings (+30.8%) and Bern with 575 listings (+6.5%). Saloons are the most commonly listed body type, followed by convertibles and coupés.
The growing allure of the past
Between January and May 2025, classic car listings on AutoScout24 attracted an average of 911’251 detailed page views per month. For comparison: in 2024, this figure averaged 869’159 monthly clicks, and in 2023 it stood at just 644’457. The same period in 2022 recorded 730’855 clicks. This equates to an increase of 24.5 per cent over three years. A look at the cantons reveals: the strongest percentage declines over the past three years were seen in Appenzell Innerrhoden (-17.7%), Obwalden (-13.9%) and Fribourg (-13.1%). The greatest growth occurred in the cantons of Schwyz (+56.4%), Schaffhausen (+45%) and Zurich (+30.7%).
Still a niche for enthusiasts?
The three most commonly used filters when searching for classic cars on AutoScout24 are brand, price and year. This indicates that, despite overall declining volumes, users continue to search for specific models and budgets – whether for collecting purposes or as an investment. „Classic cars are and will remain emotional purchases; however, in everyday life, functionality plays a more important role for many people today”, says Alberto Sanz de Lama, Managing Director of AutoScout24 at SMG Swiss Marketplace Group.
Data basis
The analysis is based on supply and demand data for vehicles listed on autoscout24.ch using the classic car filter and a minimum age of 30 years. The analysis period extends from May 2020 to May 2025. All active classic car listings were included, broken down by canton, body type and average price. Demand is based on targeted search queries using the classic car filter. Price comparisons refer to the period from January to mid-June 2025, compared with the same period in 2023.
