Supermotos are booming, touring bikes are falling out of favour – and electric power remains a niche. A new analysis by the online platforms MotoScout24 and Ricardo reveals how motorcycle supply, pricing and regional tastes have shifted across Switzerland over the past three years.
In May 2025, motorcycle listings on MotoScout24 were up 2.7% year-on-year. After a temporary dip last year, stock levels have now stabilised. Ricardo – also part of SMG Swiss Marketplace Group – saw sharper fluctuations: listings dropped by over 30% between 2022 and 2023, before rebounding strongly. By May 2025, the volume was 17% higher than the previous year. Average listing prices on MotoScout24 edged up 2% in the past two years, from CHF 10’287 to CHF 10’497. On Ricardo, prices surged more steeply (around 26%) even as supply increased.
Supermotos Take the Lead
Over half of all listings on MotoScout24 are for used bikes (55%), with new (44%) and classic (1%) models making up the rest. Supermoto listings have more than quadrupled since 2022, while motocross and chopper models have each tripled. Touring motorcycles, meanwhile, have halved in number. Among new models, the Piaggio Vespa tops the list. For second-hand bikes, Harley-Davidson leads the way.
Distinct Regional Favourites
Regional differences are striking. In the cantons of Aargau and Bern, the Kawasaki Z900 is the most frequently listed model. In Zug and Graubünden, Harley-Davidson’s Softail dominates. Geneva favours the Yamaha X-Max, while the Piaggio Vespa GTS is most popular in Zurich, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Thurgau and Schaffhausen. Schwyz shows a notable concentration of Triumph Tigers. Nationwide, bikes with engine capacities over 1’000 cc are the most traded class – followed by those in the 751–1’000 cc and 51–125 cc segments.
Slow Steps Toward Sustainability
Petrol engines still reign supreme, powering 94% of bikes listed in May 2025. But signs of change are emerging: electric motorcycles now account for 2.5% of the market. Hybrids remain rare, with a market share below 0.1%.
Data Basis
The analysis draws on supply and pricing data from motoscout24.ch and listing activity on ricardo.ch between 1 January 2022 and 31 May 2025. All motorcycle listings were considered. MotoScout24 data was segmented by category, condition, drive type, engine size and geographic origin. Ricardo’s evaluation focused on listing volumes and average prices over the same period.
